Your old DAB radio is worth money
OverviewNews 5 Nov 2013 ---
On October 14th, Dutch Public Broadcasting Company has switched from DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) to DAB +. Because the DAB carrier is no longer modulated, it has many consequences for many listeners: the faithful radio is in perfect silence .....
The old DAB used obsolete MPEG-1 layer 2 encoding, DAB + uses modern MPEG4 AAC + encoding, which allows a lot of lower bitrates to get a good sound quality. In addition, the error correction has been improved due to the use of another algorithm, so that even better reception can ensure better sound quality. Due to the significantly higher efficiency of AAC +, considerably more radio stations can use the same frequency range compared to the old DAB standard.
All nice and kind of modernization, but should I throw my old DAB radio into the trash bin? The answer is NO, DO NOT DO! Until 31 December 2013, you will receive a 25% discount on a new DAB + radio from Tivoli Audio if you submitted your old radio. Better for the environment and of course for the wallet!
Tivoli has four DAB + models in the range, the Albergo +, Model10 +, PAL + and the Music System +.
