Rega Elicit MK5 integrated amplifier
OverviewThe Rega Elicit MK5 is a completely newly designed integrated amplifier from Rega. Among other things, the Elicit MK5 features the latest custom housing to match the rest of the Rega range. Yet Rega is going a new way with the MK5 version. In addition to the usual analog inputs, the amplifier has two digital inputs in the form of coaxial and s/pdif.
The Elicit MK5 now shares some key features of the Rega Aethos amplifier. The amplifier features the same discrete FET-based preamp circuit and an Alps volume potentiometer to further enhance sonic and technical performance. In addition to these major changes, the Rega features: discrete circuitry, high quality relays, polypropylene capacitors and Sanken output transistors have been used throughout the design.
The amplifier design is still built around a solid toroidal transformer. The result is a class A/B amplifier with 105 watts per channel at 8 ohms and 127 watts at 6 ohms. This ensures that the Rega amplifier is able to provide sufficient power for many loudspeakers.
For the Rega Elicit MK5, Rega has chosen to take a new path. The earlier models only have analog inputs and an MM phono input. For the MK5 it was decided to build in a Wolfson DAC. In this way you have the option to connect your TV via optical, for example, and to use the digital coaxial input for a CD player/drive or network player/streamer.
