Using hemp for a headphone?

Item 11 of 48
Overview

For the first time, Grado uses hemp in The Hemp Headphone. A brilliant, warm and precise sound resulted in this Limited Edition Grado.

Grado often experiments with all types of wood and materials, but did not consider the possibility of hemp. They were not sure how this material would turn out, but to everyone's surprise it quickly became a favorite in the company itself. Actually it is one of the best sounding Limited Editions Grado has built.
The highly compressed hemp provides a cushioning effect between their fibers. This produces a fuller sound, consisting of noticeable pressure in the low end and a smooth gradient up to the highest frequencies.
While the hemp does the heavy lifting, there is maple built into the body to balance the sound and bring out the sonic properties we've heard maple produce.

The Grado drivers built into the hemp enclosures had to be specifically matched to a material that Grado has never worked with before. The combination with maple gave some foresight, but only through trial and error could they make the speakers sound the way they wanted, and bring out the potential of the hemp.
