Unfortunately, our power grid is becoming increasingly polluted by wind turbines, charging electric cars and solar panels, among other things.
These solar panels supply energy to our mains and when the peripheral equipment is of a mediocre quality, there can be direct voltage on our mains, with all the consequences for our valuable audio equipment. (This does not even have to be due to your own solar panels, and moreover, not only the solar panels are responsible for direct voltage on the mains.)

Particularly large transformers in (power) amplifiers and toroidal transformers, for example, can cause a very annoying mechanical buzz or even hum. If this buzzing or humming varies, from (almost) not present to sometimes even annoyingly present, then you are almost certainly dealing with DC voltage on the mains.
